Pre-Workout Meal Ideas

Hey y’all! Today we’re talking about pre-workout meal/snack ideas. I have 5 of my faves down below. Depending on how hungry you are and the volume of your meal, eat about 30-60 minutes before you plan to workout. Well, let’s get to it!

1. OATS

Anytime I’m having a long workout, especially lifting, I like to eat a nice amount of carbs to fuel my workout. Oatmeal is a cheap and easy option. Top 1/2 cup oats off with a few raisins and a handful of nuts for some extra protein. Some folks even throw in a scoop of protein powder. Been there. Done that. I wasn’t a huge fan, but if it floats your boat…Go for it!

2. AVO TOAST & EGGS

If your pre-workout meal is breakfast, avocado toast with eggs is a fun option. Healthy fats, carbs, and protein all in one. Depending on your personal macro needs, use 1/2-1 whole avocado, 1-2 slices of toast (try out a sprouted option like Ezekiel Bread), and 2-3 eggs.

3. SHAKE IT UP

Of course I couldn’t make this list without a protein shake. Sometimes connivence is the most important thing when it comes to pre-workout fuel! Grab your blender. Throw in 1 scoop of protein powder, 1 cup of berries, 1/2 cup of ice and liquid of your choice (water, almond milk, etc).

4. OMELET W/ VEGGIES

Here’s another full breakfast meal. Make a traditional omelet adding in ALL the veggies. I like mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, jalapeΓ±os, spinach…SautΓ© your veggies with a little olive or coconut oil and season to your liking. If you want, add a little cheese on top.

5. FRUIT & NUT BUTTER

It doesn’t get much easier than this! Grab a piece of fruit (apple, banana, etc) and 1 serving of your favorite nut butter for a quick fuel boost. With companies like Justin’s, you don’t even have to measure out your nut butter. Simply keep a few squeeze packs in your gym bag so you’re always ready to go!

I hope this list helps you out with your pre-workout nutrition! These options are much healthier than an “EXXXTREME FAT BURNING” powder. Haha Eat whole foods, stay hydrated, and make sure you get quality sleep. You’ll have plenty of natural energy to fuel all of your workouts ❀
