Shedding Old Skin

Happy Tuesday!!!

Today I’m coming to you as a girl who knows the struggle. The struggle of letting go and stepping into the life you’re supposed to live.

Don’t be fooled. This isn’t a one and done type of thing. Shedding old skin happens multiple times throughout our lives…in some ways even daily.

I’m just here to let you know it’s OK and I’m going through it with you.

While abroad I noticed that life kept giving me situations where I had to exercise my “letting go” muscles. Sometimes it was simple. Other times it was heavy shit. But I got the point. It kept coming up because it was something I resisted for a long time. I needed to get my strength up in that area. Learn to loosen my grip on things. Learn to appreciate and accept the change of seasons..because I’m really not in control anyway.

Since my accident, I’ve had a lot of time to think. Although it didn’t end tragically, the smallest shift in time or space and it would have. That’s scary. To think I was so close to the edge of life. Anyhoo, encountering an event of that magnitude made me evaluate everything in my life. Am I really being intentional with my thoughts, actions, words, creativity…the way I spend my time…the people I keep near me…? In some cases, the answer was no. Thankfully life had been preparing me for this very moment. It may not be easy. It may not make sense. It may not be logical at all. But I can let go. I can do it.

This unexpected plot twist in my life has forced me to do some spring cleaning, and I challenge you to do the same. You don’t have to wait until you have a “near death” experience to sort through your junk. Do it today. Evaluate your life, from a place of self love. If something is no longer for you, no longer serving a true purpose in your life… LetΒ that shit go. Shed that old skin. It’s dry, crusty and holding you back from the glow you know is yours.

MAKE A LIST

Whether you write it in the form of bullet points or a journal entry, write out what’s going on in your life right now. What and who are you spending your time and energy on? What is making you happy and fulfilled? What’s draining your life and bringing you down? Take your time. Be honest with yourself. And if some deep emotions come up while you do this please allow yourself to feel and experience them fully. April showers…

DECIDE WHAT STAYS & GOES

After writing things down, you may be very clear on what you need to do. That’s great! If not, pause here and meditate. Take a few minutes, or as long as you need, to get still and quiet your mind. The truth is you already know what you need to do. Sometimes the idea is just scary or uncomfortable and subconsciously we fool ourselves into thinking everything is complicated and we don’t have the answers. That’s OK. Just try to get your head and heart into a clear space so you can really connect with yourself and feel what’s right for you.

CLEAN IT UP

Once you know what needs to stay and what should be thrown out, it’s up to you to get the cleaning done. This will look different for each situation. Take your time and handle them intentionally- with love.

I really hope this posts helps you along your journey. Even if you’re not ready to shed that crusty skin just yet, at least try out the first spring cleaning step. You owe it to yourself. Take care of you.
